Flood Control Intake Tower
Case Study
The Challenge:
Local municipality and lake management needed to conduct load testing on crane equipment. The problem was being able to get the equipment from the shore of Lewisville Lake to the crane located on the waterside of an Intake Tower approximately 50’ from shore in the lake on a deck approximately 20’ up from water level.
JWA’s Solution:
The solution was to offload the 5te waterbag and all equipment needed from the back of a pickup truck into a small work boat and sail the equipment out to the Intake Tower. Then using the crane, pick up the waterbag and cargo bag containing the loose equipment and hoist up to the crane deck. For the water supply, a pump was used to bring water up from the lake to the waterbag. We then had to sail back to shore and walk out to the Intake Tower on a walkway.
Challenges Faced:
The primary challenge was one of logistics in staging the equipment on the crane deck.
The Location:
Test was located in Lewisville, TX. at a Flood Control Intake Tower. The tower is used to keep the lake level at a certain point and prevent possible flooding.
